Did you ever vote for Mark Zuckerberg? Me neither. Yet somehow, he’s pulling the strings of governments and shaping our future.
With 700 million people using Meta AI every month, Zuckerberg’s power is ballooning - and so is his fortune. All built on our data.
Zuckerberg the unelected diplomat
This man isn’t just running Facebook. He’s meeting with presidents, prime ministers, and regulators across the globe - from Donald Trump to EU Commissioners, Japan’s Fumio Kishida to Argentina’s Luis Caputo.
I don’t like this. This isn’t a CEO. It’s an unelected diplomat serving his own interests.
Facebook has repeatedly undermined democracy and dodged responsibility. Here are a few examples:
Cambridge Analytica exploited 87 million profiles to sway elections.
Amnesty International reported that Facebook failed to act when its systems promoted violence against Rohingya.
Instagram’s own research showed harm being done to teen mental health - but the report was buried to protect growth.
Meta faced a class action after content moderators in Kenya claimed they were traumatised after being exposed to disturbing content.
And Zuckerberg’s fortune? It appears to have skyrocketed alongside every scandal. reported to be at:
$97 billion in 2021.
$219 billion in 2024.
Nearly $270 billion by mid-2025.
I’m concerned about Meta AI
Because things aren’t getting better. Reuters recently revealed that Meta’s own chatbot guidelines allowed flirty and romantic conversations with minors. This wasn’t a bug - it was approved in a 200-page policy.
And while Meta swears it isn't using your private chats to train their AI, here’s the caveat: if anyone in the chat shares your WhatsApp with AI (say, by summarising a message thread), your data becomes training material — without your real consent (“We’re not using people’s private messages with friends and family to train our AIs unless you or someone in the chat chooses to share those messages with our AIs.”)
…and I don’t trust Zuck
Zuckerberg is not accountable to voters. He bends democracy, courts world leaders, censors when it suits him, and grows richer every year .
Now AI is the accelerant - and it’s being built on our conversations, our data, and our lives. And with the release of Meta’s AI display glasses, it will be harder than ever to opt out of Meta’s voracious data collection when when your fellow citizens are walking around with dashcams attached to their faces, capturing your every move.
Should one man have this much unchecked power?
